A Pioneer in a long Christian tradition...
Throughout history, God has time and again, raised up Christian ministries to reach unreached India with the Gospel of Jesus Christ. UPHOLD is one such ministry, founded through the Christian missionary efforts of A. Philip Timothy. As a Christian missionary effort, UPHOLD is a pioneer in ministry to India's Saura community.
Bro. Philip Timothy left his studies in Calcutta Bible College to enter full time ministry as a native missionary to the Saura tribe. By identifying himself with the Saura people, Bro. Philip Timothy gained their acceptance as one among them. Challenges he faced include sickness from malaria and jaundice. However, the Lord did not allow anything to touch his life. In 1996, while on his death bed, waiting to enter the glories of Heaven, the Lord intervened, miraculously touched him and raised him from the bed. The greatest price Bro. Philip Timothy has paid in preaching the gospel is the lost of his first child on July 4, 2001.
Through Bro. Timothy's faithfulness and leadership, the Lord has established 58 tribal churches. From the ministry's inception, Bro. Timothy has sought people to carry out the work. To that end he has taken committed young people from the same tribal group and trained them to reach their own tribe. Now there are 58 native tribal missionaries working along with Bro. Timothy.
