School Council
(2003-2005)

The Jackson Heights Elementary School (JHES) Council is a new addition to the school's academic achievement program. The 2004-2005 school year marks the second year of the Council's existence.

The purpose of the council is to influence the school's educational program in a positive way by giving advice, making recommendations and providing assistance when needed to do so. Council members serve for a term of two school years and include parents, business leaders, teachers and the school principal.

The JHES Council is committed to the school's mission of enhancing student achievement in all academic areas so that no child enters middle school needing remediation. To help the school fulfill its mission, the Council supports and encourages involvement by the parents of students who attend the school. Such involvement includes attending PTO meetings and being present at other school functions. Parental involvement in the school produces pride and a sense of well-being in the students. This in turn enhances the student's desire to achieve as well as a willingness to work hard to do so.

News:   CRCT test results for the 2003-2004 school year are excellent. The validity of the test results were accepted without question.

Thank-you teachers for a job well done!

Five new teachers have been hired for the 2004-2005 school year. The new teachers all have a positive attitude and are excellent teachers. Two additional teachers will also be hired.

Construction on the new school building is three months behind. The new expected occupancy date is January 2006. The new building will feature high-tech classrooms having laptops, smart boards, projectors, scanners, palm pilots and more! Two classes will serve as models: Mrs. Dawn Whitaker's and Mrs. Hall's.

Let's Celebrate:   A weekend trip to Savannah, Georgia is being planned for March 11, 2005. The trip will celebrate the excellent results of the school's academic achievement and reward the hardworking faculty and staff for a job well done. All faculty and staff will be invited to this expense paid (except for personal spending) weekend getaway. Plans are underway to raise the necessary funds for this much deserved celebration.

Support for the celebration has been pledged by Partners in Excellence and other interest persons in the JHES community. The JHES family is looking forward to another year of academic excellence.
